How To Start Smoking: A Guide For Women – Smoking Fetish Story

Where to start…D. R. Humo’s World of Smoking Glamour was another one of those iconic web sites back in the day, people in the SF community talked about it and even wrote about it. For my part I visited the site once or twice, thought it was interesting and a bit cool, then I moved on, not being the target audience, I had little interest in it. Of particular fame was the section titled ‘How To Start Smoking: A Guide For Women’ and it’s that section that I reproduce here, as part of a reconstruction of the full web site that I’m working on. As some of you may know I’ve been editing the open-ended fiction series New Smoke City, so I find it refreshing to work on this side project for a little while. This segues into where I’m going with this foreword quite nicely.
When you’ve been around as long as I (and a lot of others) have, you visit a lot of places and see a lot of stuff, and while some of it may fade from relevance in ones memory, you never forget anything entirely, and when someone posts about their own memories and reminisces, you find yourself thinking ‘I remember that.’ Well I had one of those moments last night while editing a story for Volume 15 of New Smoke City, so, I went hunting, and you’d be surprised how much much exposure and the guide in particular had. My search began with an anti-smoking article of all things, which goes to show how Google weights it’s search results, but that aside, the original URL was listed in the references, a Geocities site, and by now you probably all know Geocities got shut down in 2009, so that was a dead end, but it wasn’t the only reference to that link, so I scanned down the listing, and behold a link to the internet archive version of the site, and at this point I dips me lid to Closet Fascination who posted the link on the Smoking Feels Good web site, so it was on, I had a good solid lead. Clicking on the link took me off to the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine, and to the pages in question, a quick click on all the links showed all the relevant pages had been captured. And so I shall reproduce them here in much the same format as I have done with my other efforts for your (Online or Offline) reading pleasure.
I’m going to leave this one pretty much as is, only making changes where needed, Humo’s email address probably doesn’t work, so I’ll be removing that, so the changes I make will be largely cosmetic ones.
I find it fascinating also that D. R. Humo’s site predates that other popular site back in the day, Smoking by Denise, and odds are if you’re reading this, you already know of my involvement with that, so I’m happy to count this as another part of our community history preserved for posterity. I decided to redeploy this section in particular as a stand- alone work. I also find it a little amusing that readers of the site referenced the Author as Dr. Humo, which is incorrect.

Special Notice Wanted: Contributor to the World of Smoking Glamour!

I have always tried to make the World of Smoking Glamour a collaborative place: A place where women and men can share their thoughts and experiences about smoking. Unfortunately, I’ve been terribly remiss on my end, and just haven’t kept this page updated.

To get myself on track, I’ve started recently to recruit more and more help from potential contributors who can share insightful information about women and smoking.

Many of us in the pro-smoking community share one trait in common with the anti- smokers. We want to know the thought processes behind those who make the choice to become smokers. Frankly, I think most of us have a better understanding than the anti- smokers, but we still want to learn more!

That’s why I am recruiting a special assistant, with some very special qualifications. As most of you are probably aware, the legal smoking age in most parts of the U.S. is 18 years of age. We would never dream of encouraging underage smoking, but on the other hand, we don’t believe in procrastination either!

Therefore, we are looking for an articulate 17-year-old girl who has been thinking about becoming a smoker. You are perusing these pages because you are very seriously considering the idea of smoking, but you haven’t started smoking yet. If you fit this description, we would love to hear from you.

Here’s what we have in mind. We would like to publish, perhaps in a diary format, the thought process of a young woman as she starts smoking. We would like to hear why you are considering smoking, and why you will decide to become a smoker. And then, we will hear from you on your eighteenth birthday when you buy your first pack of cigarettes and become a smoker!

The anti-smokers have many convinced that girls only start smoking due to “peer pressure” at a young age, and then are slaves to cigarettes by the time they reach 18. This will be your chance to prove them wrong!

If you think you might like to participate in this exciting program, please let us know. We will work with you to contribute in a way you are comfortable with. Some girls might like to have their picture on the web smoking their first cigarette. On the other hand, some girls might like complete anonymity. Again, we will work with you and help you make this a memorable experience.

If you are interested, or think you might be, please write us at (address removed – AusNick).

Please give it some thought! It might be an exciting way to celebrate your 18th Birthday!

AusNick Adds…As it turned out, there was a ‘diary’ posted on the main site, which appears in The World of Smoking Glamour (forthcoming). There was just the one, despite the site author evidently having plans for more.

How to Start Smoking: Lesson 1

If you are reading this far, you are an adult woman who has decided to start smoking or who is giving the matter serious consideration. First of all, let me congratulate you on making this decision. In the face of immense political pressure based upon questionable motives, you have decided to be yourself and express your femininity in a very bold manner. Let me reassure you: You will find pleasure in your decision. And you will make the man that loves you (or who will fall in love with you) very happy.

As far as I am aware, the information contained in this page can be found nowhere else. For the beginning smoker, practical advice is hard to come by. Because of the societal and political pressures against smoking, even most smokers seem reluctant to give practical tips on how to go about starting. I don’t claim to be an expert, but I hope that I can give you some information that will help. As always, I welcome feedback.

Introduction

Cigarettes, like many of the better things in life, are an acquired taste. If you are like most adults, you enjoy drinking coffee, beer, or wine. And chances are, you have definite opinions as to what is good and what is bad. Some of those opinions are yours and yours alone. Perhaps you enjoy sugar in your coffee; perhaps you find the idea of sugar in coffee to be a contaminant. These are personal opinions–you simply know what you like.

You have other opinions that are probably shared with others. For example, if you buy some beer that has sat in the store too long, you can immediately recognize it as stale. No matter what an individual’s personal tastes, there are certain tastes that are universal.

But think back to the first time you tried coffee, beer, or wine. For most people, it was a negative experience. That is because these items are acquired tastes. At first, no matter how good they are, they don’t taste very good. But after time, one comes to appreciate them, enjoy them, and even acquire a personal taste.

Remember that cigarettes are just the same. At first, no matter the quality, they will taste alien to a new smoker. It takes time to appreciate them. So let me give you the most important piece of advice: If your first experience with cigarettes is negative, be patient. Remember what your first cup of coffee or glass of beer or wine was like. Start slowly, and plan on smoking at least one package of cigarettes, probably over a period of a couple of weeks, and at least sampling three or four different brands before deciding that smoking is not for you. If you follow this advice, you will get past the initial sense that smoking is something alien, and you will probably learn to appreciate cigarettes.

What Cigarettes to Chose?

If you’ve looked at the cigarettes in a retail store, you might have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of different brands. Please don’t be intimidated. You face similar choices every day and probably do quite nicely. Consider, for example, the choice of soft drinks. There are dozens of brands. And within each brand, there are still more choices. For example, if you buy Coca-Cola, you must decide whether you want a bottle or can, and must choose a size. You must choose between regular and diet. You must choose between

cherry and regular. You must choose between caffeinated and non-caffeinated. But despite the bewildering array of choices, most people decide quite nicely upon what they prefer. Cigarettes are no different.

As you are probably aware, cigarettes are sold by brand name. By looking at magazine advertisements, you are probably aware of a number of brand names, and are somewhat familiar with the “image” associated with those brand names. Popular brands in the United States include: Marlboro, Camel, Winston, Salem, Merit, etc. Because of the customs laws usually associated with tobacco, the brands of cigarettes available in different countries vary more than in the case of other products. For example, Marlboro cigarettes, which are very popular in the United States and in other countries, are generally unavailable in Canada. The popular Canadian brands, such as Players, Export A, and duMaurier, are generally unavailable in the United States.

Some of these cigarettes cater to a female market, and are more popular among women. For example, Virginia Slims and Capri cigarettes are smoked almost exclusively by women. For that reason, they might be more popular with the man in your life. While not as exclusively feminine, Benson & Hedges, and Marlboro Lights 100’s are popular with many female smokers. (Please don’t be confused by my reference to “lights” and “100’s”. Those terms will be explained below.)

Most smokers will tell you that the brand of cigarette you smoke says a lot about your personality. Different people like different things. Look at the cigarettes your friends smoke. If there’s a woman you admire, you might want to try her brand. You’re not doing so to imitate her. But you admire her because there’s something about her character that is like yours. If she enjoys a particular brand of cigarettes, it is likely that you will enjoy them as well.

(One word of advice: Stay away from “generic” cigarettes. If you ever tried generic beer, you probably discovered that it isn’t very good. The same is true with cigarettes: You can save a few pennies by buying cheaper cigarettes. But as with everything else, you sacrifice quality. Please stick with the major brands or, as they’re sometimes called, “national brands”. As a general rule, cigarettes that are advertised in national magazines will be of good quality unless they’re advertised as having a low price.)

As with Diet Coke, Cherry Coke, and Caffeine-Free Coke, the brand does not say it all. There are still a number of choices, most of which are more important than the actual brand name. For example, Marlboro and Winston cigarettes, especially to a beginner, are actually quite similar. On the other hand, Marlboro and Marlboro Lights 100’s are really very different.

A few brand names are sold in only one form. However, most brand names, like Coca Cola, are sold in a number of different variations. As a general rule, after choosing a brand name, you will need to make a choice in some or all of the following categories:

• Type of package
• Length
• “Strength” (i.e., regular, “light”, or “ultra-light”) • Regular or Menthol

Here is what all of those terms mean:

Type of Package

Some cigarettes are sold in two different types of packaging. In general, the type of package has little effect upon the cigarettes inside. Some cigarettes, such as all varieties of Marlboro, are sold either in “soft pack” or “box” (sometimes called “hard pack”). The soft pack is simply a paper wrapping. To open the package, you generally tear off one-third of the top of the package, which exposes five cigarettes. The “box” or “hard pack” is generally a cardboard box with a lid on the top.

When you ask for a “pack” of cigarettes, you will be given a package almost invariably containing twenty cigarettes. A “carton” contains ten packs, or a total of 200 cigarettes.

Length

Most brands of cigarettes are available in two or more lengths. The most common is “king size”. One might expect that the “king size” would be the longest. That assumption would be wrong. “King size” or “kings” are, in fact, the shortest cigarettes available in the United States. (I discovered on a trip to Canada that this statement is not universally true. When I asked for a package of Players Filters and did not specify the length, I received a package of “international size” cigarettes, considerably shorter than U.S. Kings.) King size cigarettes are usually about 80 millimeters long.

Many women smokers (along with many of their male admirers) prefer longer cigarettes: either “100’s” or “120’s”. The numbers refer to the cigarette’s length in millimeters. Most cigarettes are available in 100’s. Most are not available in 120’s. (Virginia Slims are a notable exception). In fact, most 120 mm cigarettes have their own brand names and are available only in the 120 mm version. For example, Saratoga and More are available only as 120’s. (Saratogas contain the same tobacco as Marlboro cigarettes, but in the longer length; More cigarettes are recognizable as being brown rather than white).

In addition to being viewed as more “sexy” than Kings, the longer cigarettes have other advantages to the new smoker: First of all, because the added tobacco serves as an additional filter, 100 millimeter cigarettes are generally somewhat milder than their shorter counterparts. When you become a cigarette connoisseur, you will appreciate the difference: In addition to being milder, they generally have a more pleasant flavor, because the smoke is filtered through the aromatic tobacco. (Even many people who don’t smoke will admit that tobacco has a very pleasant aroma. Before you light your first cigarette, smell the tobacco. You will see why filtering the smoke through the unburnt tobacco adds a pleasant taste.)

The longer cigarettes have another advantage for the beginner. Until you become used to the mechanics of smoking, you might have a few unpleasant encounters of getting smoke in your eyes or nose. Having the lit end and additional 20 millimeters away from your face will make learning to smoke somewhat easier.

“Strength”: “Full Flavor” vs. “Lights”

One of the most critical choices you will make in deciding on your starter brand is “how strong” a cigarette you should try. There is a vast difference between the strongest brands and the mildest brands. As a beginner, it is probably best to start with a relatively mild cigarette. As you become a connoisseur, you might want to occasionally try stronger brands. On the other hand, many smokers continue to smoke relatively mild cigarettes and enjoy them considerably.

In general, the stronger cigarettes have no qualifier in their name. The milder cigarettes are usually called “lights”. For example, if you ask in the store for a “pack of Marlboro”, you will be given the strongest Marlboro cigarettes, the ones in the red package. In the industry, these stronger cigarettes are sometimes called “full-flavor”. That term, however, is generally not used by smokers. For the milder version, you should ask for a “pack of Marlboro Lights”, which come in a white and gold package.

Some cigarette brands are “low-tar” brands, which means that the particular brand is not available in a “full-flavor” (i.e. strong) version, but only as “lights”. In these cases, generally, one does not request “lights” when ordering. For example, Vantage and Merit cigarettes are, by definition, “lights”, and this qualifier is not necessary when asking for them in the store. (Some of the “low-tar” cigarettes are, however, available, in “ultra-light” formulations. As the name implies, these cigarettes are even milder than ordinary “lights”.

Since the word “tar” is sometimes used, a brief explanation is in order. This is an unfortunate term, as cigarettes do not contain the material that is used to pave highways. “Tar” is a shorthand term for some of the components of tobacco smoke, and is used in ranking the relative strength of cigarettes. In general, less tar means less smoke; more tar means more smoke. I prefer the terms “stronger” and “milder”, as I think they’re more descriptive.

You can get an idea of how strong cigarettes are by looking at their advertisements. At the bottom, in small print, it will tell you the “tar and nicotine” numbers. Concentrate on the tar numbers, because they reflect the total volume of smoke produced by a given cigarette. (The amount of nicotine is generally proportional by a factor of about one-tenth). Keep in mind that “regular” cigarettes such as Marlboro generally have about 16 milligrams of “tar” per cigarette. Marlboro lights, for example, have about eight, making them about half as strong.

In general, for the beginner, a milder cigarette will be easier to smoke. My recommendation is to start with a quite mild cigarette, although not necessarily the mildest. Think back to your first cup of coffee: It was probably not as strong as what you enjoy today. On the other hand, it probably was not the consistency of weak tea.

If you are very concerned about not becoming addicted, however, or if you simply want to smoke for the man in your life and have no interest in “really” smoking, I should advise you as to the mildest cigarettes available. Carlton cigarettes are, in my opinion, so mild as to be indistinguishable from air. Their “tar” number is about one-twentieth of most cigarettes. This is accomplished, in general, by mixing the smoke with air. In other words, while technically cigarettes, smoking a Carlton is the functional equivalent of not smoking. If you are really concerned about the health effects of smoking, but want to give the illusion of smoking (a compromise which will probably please your husband or

boyfriend), then by all means try Carltons. But I don’t think you will ever come to enjoy smoking them. I encourage you to try something stronger as well.

Regular or Menthol

As noted above, some people prefer sugar in their coffee, some people prefer their coffee without sugar. I think menthol cigarettes are probably the same. Even though I smoked them almost exclusively when I started smoking, I prefer non-menthol cigarettes now. As a beginner, you will probably prefer menthol cigarettes. Your tastes will probably change as you become a connoisseur.

A “menthol” cigarette is something like coffee with sugar: Another flavor has been added to the tobacco. That flavor is “menthol”, or, as it might be called, mint. The mintiness gets carried with the smoke. As a result, when you smoke a menthol cigarette, there is a “cool” sensation in your mouth. The effect is similar to eating a peppermint candy.

The decision between “regular” and “menthol” cigarettes is strictly one of personal taste. I suggest you try each. I also suggest, however, that your very first cigarette by a menthol. The coolness will probably help you become accustomed to smoking. After all, you probably put sugar in your first cup of coffee, didn’t you?

Choosing a Cigarette for You

After having read the foregoing, you can intelligently look at cigarette advertisements and decide what kind fits you. But remember that there’s more to it than the mechanics: The cigarette you smoke says a lot about your personality. Cigarette brands are a lot like beer brands in that way. For some women, some variant of Virginia Slims is perfect. For another, Benson & Hedges are perfect. For many, Marlboro Lights 100s is the brand of choice. And Marlboro 100’s are for a select group of women who really love smoking. (In my humble opinion, Marlboro 100’s are the best cigarettes available. I smoke them only rarely, however, because I’m of the opinion that 100 millimeter cigarettes are really for women.)

Beginner’s Cigarettes Reviewed

The following reviews of various cigarette brands, with an eye toward the tastes of a beginning female smoker, were graciously provided by (email address removed – AusNick).
If you’re looking for suggestions for good starter brands, I’d suggest the following:

• pick an ultra light to start with, then move up if necessary
• pick an all-white slim (they seem to be the most popular among husbands and

boyfriends)
• pick a menthol (the cooler taste might make a better first impression on a beginner) • pick at least a 100mm length (you don’t need to smoke it all, but the extra length

looks a lot more attractive)

If I had to name some brands, they would all be my personal favorites:
• Virginia Slims Superslims Menthol has the coolest taste around, with the added benefits of being an ultra light and having less smoke from the lit end, possibly

making it more tolerable for newcomers (less smoke in the eyes and up the nose) [D.R. Humo Notes: I have heard from other sources the extreme mildness of this particular brand. The “Superslim” is an added variation available for Virginia Slims, meaning that the cigarette is thinner than normal. I should note, however, that the Superslims are not always available every place that cigarettes are sold. If you are nervous about buying your first pack of cigarettes, which is discussed below, you might want to keep this fact in mind.]

  • Capri Ultra Lights menthol are very, very light. Capri menthol is much better, but still light, and Capri menthol 120s are the longest, slimmest cigarette made today.
  • Virginia Slims Ultra Lights menthol have a good taste in a slim ultra light
  • I believe Carlton still makes a 120, and it’s probably also very light [D.R. Humo

    notes: see my comments above].

  • VS Menthol Lights are one of the most popular choices, as indicated in your story!

One could move up to the 120s, if so desired.

Buying Your First Pack of Cigarettes

Now that you’ve chosen what cigarettes you will try, you have reached the exciting day when you will buy your first pack. You will probably be just a little bit nervous. In most states, gone are the days when you could buy them anonymously from a vending machine. Don’t be nervous, however. If you are nervous, it is only because you are going to do something exciting!

In some places, cigarettes can still be purchased as a self-service item. If that’s the case, you can pick out your brand (doesn’t that have a nice ring to it) and simply place them on the counter.

In many places, however, cigarettes are now kept exclusively behind the counter, and you will have to request your brand. Do not be overly concerned that the clerk will have a negative reaction to your smoking. Most retailers try not to alienate their customers, and you should not expect any negative reaction. In fact, you will start to discover that the clerk, and the most of the other customers, will start to treat you with a certain respect now that you’re a smoker.

There are a few radical anti-smokers out there, and they might look upon you with disapproval. It is unlikely, but if you detect this, just let them think that you are a hopeless addict who has been smoking for years. At worst, you’ll probably experience pity. But again, you will probably see the respect (and sometimes even envy) that a beautiful woman smoker often experiences.

For the illusion of experience, think through what you are going to say to the clerk. Visualize everything that might happen, including your walking out with your first package of cigarettes and embarking on your new life as a smoker.

When you approach the counter, simply smile and say, “Hi, I’d like a pack of ________________, please.” Remember to ask for brand, length, lights (if desired), and menthol (if desired).
For example, here is how to request some popular brands:

    • I’d like a pack of Marlboro Lights One Hundreds.
    • I’d like a pack of Virginia Slims Super Slims Menthol. • I’d like a pack of Virginia Slims Lights Menthol.

You might be asked for more information. For example, if you requested any Marlboro product, you might be asked whether you want the box or soft pack. Since many smokers have no preference in this regard, it’s perfectly normal to say “either one would be fine, thanks.”

In most states, one pack of cigarettes costs about two dollars. If you are at all nervous about the whole transaction, just have a five dollar bill in your hand.

While you are in the store, you might want to buy a cigarette lighter. All cigarette lighters sold in the United States are now “child proof”, so you will need to experiment with it some when you get home. Within a day, you will be using it gracefully.

For the time being, just invest in a cheap disposable lighter. the oval “Bic” lighters usually cost less than a dollar. You might be tempted to buy an expensive lighter. Please resist the temptation for the time being. I am quite certain that you will be receiving one as a gift from a grateful husband or boyfriend on your next birthday, anniversary, or even no occasion other than your starting smoking. If you forget the lighter, you probably have some matches at home.

Finally, have your driver’s license handy. The fact that you are starting to smoke proves that you are young at heart. You are beautiful, and you probably look too young to smoke.

Congratulations. You will soon be a member of the exclusive sorority of beautiful women who smoke! In my next addition to this page, I will discuss the mechanics of smoking that first cigarette and learning to love smoking.

Lesson 2: Setting the Mood

In our first lesson, we discussed the many different cigarettes available and gave you some information on intelligently choosing a brand. We also talked you through the purchase of your first pack of cigarettes.

You have now reached the point you will remember forever: You are about to smoke your first cigarette. You will soon know why people smoke: Because it is one of the most pleasurable experiences one can enjoy. And your husband or boyfriend will soon barely be able to contain his joy: You will be expressing yourself in the most sensual way possible—you will soon be smoking.

Setting the Mood

Despite the fact that there are millions of smokers, I believe that for most of them, the first cigarette was not an entirely pleasant experience. Part of the reason, of course, is the fact that most of them started young, and the important choice of what cigarette to smoke was left primarily to chance. If you read lesson one, you obviously gave a great deal of thought to your choice of starter brand and are somewhat prepared for the experience.

Setting the mood for the first cigarette is also important. You shouldn’t rush it; you should take the time to examine your new cigarettes. Open the package and admire the long perfect cigarettes that you will soon be enjoying. Take one out and hold it between your fingers, the graceful way you’ve seen other women holding their cigarettes. Imagine how aroused your husband or boyfriend will be when he sees you smoke.

Consider the fact that your cigarettes can go with you almost everywhere. And whenever your husband or boyfriend sees you smoke (or even when he sees a package of cigarettes in your purse), he will be hearing you say how much you love him; how much you want to please him physically; and how much you enjoy pure pleasure. Your new cigarettes are a powerful tool to please him, to seduce him, and even to toy with him. That package of cigarettes contains twenty keys to his heart. And he will love the fact that you hold them. He loves you, and it pleases him to know that you are going to smoke not only for the pleasure that it will give him, but also for the pleasure it will give you.

Keeping this in mind, there are two ways you might wish to proceed. Especially if the man in your life has encouraged you to think about smoking, you might just want to ask him for his help. Be forthright with him; he will love you if you ask, “sweetheart, I think I’d like to smoke; can you show me how?”

On the other hand, you might want to surprise him. You will control him absolutely if you follow these lessons yourself, and then surprise him by greeting him dressed in your sexiest lingerie and lighting a cigarette.

Whichever way you decide to start, with his help or without, please review these lessons. Even if he shows you how, believe me, his mind will be elsewhere. He’ll forget what he knows about the mechanics. He will be hypnotized with joy by the mere fact that you’ve decided to smoke.

In our next lesson, you will actually smoke your first cigarette.

How to Start Smoking: Lesson 3

Your First Cigarette

First of all, Professor Humo apologizes for the delay in posting further lessons. He has heard from a number of women who have been eager to continue. Unfortunately, his research duties have been time-consuming, and he has failed to devote the required attention to teaching.

Help is on the way, however! Another ASG member has offered to prepare more lessons. As soon as they are available, they will be posted here.

In the meantime, however, D.R. Humo is aware that a number of women are impatient, and want to start smoking, even if the lesson plan is not entirely complete. Therefore, this lesson will give you the basics for starting your life as a sexy smoker!

We discussed in our first two lessons the basics of choosing a cigarette, buying your first pack, and getting ready to smoke your first. Even though this is a somewhat abbreviated lesson, I’m sure you are excited!

We will not be covering smoking style yet. We will leave that for later lessons. I suggest you do some of your early smoking in front of a mirror. Also, watch your friends closely. It is likely that many of them have a style, parts of which you might want to emulate.

There’s one important fact to remember: The mere fact that you are smoking makes you a hundred times sexier. As you practice, your style will improve. But from the first cigarette, even if it is slightly awkward, you will have changed yourself from a beautiful woman to a goddess!

If you are at all nervous, I suggest that you pour yourself a glass of your favorite wine to relax. But please limit yourself to a single glass as you smoke your first cigarette. Your body needs to get used to the nicotine in cigarettes, and excess alcohol may make it difficult to do so.

If you’re ready, please take out your first cigarette. Hold it between the second and third fingers, just the way you’ve seen your more elegant friends do. It looks beautiful there!

Next, take a few practice puffs of the unlit cigarette. Especially if you are starting with a menthol cigarette, you will notice a refreshing cool scent. Just gently draw from the cigarette, as if you were sipping a drink from a straw. You might want to practice exhaling the “smoke”. Pucker your lips slightly, as if to kiss, and gently blow out.

After you feel comfortable holding the cigarette, you are ready to light it! Hopefully, you have practiced with your lighter or matches already. If not, take the time now to practice making a flame. Do not be concerned if the lighter still feels a bit awkward. Using it, just like smoking, will soon come naturally. Don’t feel ashamed if it takes two hands to start the lighter. Many beginners have problems operating one. You will soon be using it confidently.

Now, place the cigarette between your lips. Start the lighter, and move it toward the cigarette. Approach the cigarette from the end, and move the lighter toward the tip of

the cigarette. When flame is just barely touching the cigarette, suck in gently on the cigarette for less than a second. Remember, pretend that you are drinking from a straw.

Congratulations, you are now smoking!

Now, set down the lighter. You will notice that the end of the cigarette is glowing, and smoke is emerging from it. You really are smoking!

When you take that first puff to get the cigarette going, be careful not to inhale any of the smoke into your lungs. You will learn the proper technique in a few moments.

Warning: With smoking, you will find that the medical profession gives many dire warnings, but is often unwilling to give practical advice to limit the actual dangers. Here is one important warning that they won’t give you. While extremely unlikely, butane cigarette lighters have been known to flare up when being lit. Therefore, you should not “flick” the lighter with it near your face. Instead, you should “flick” it a few feet from your face, and then move it, burning, toward the cigarette.

Now, take another puff from the cigarette, slightly larger than your first one. Again, pretend that you are drinking a delicious drink from a straw. Draw the smoke into your mouth, but do not try to inhale yet.

When you lit the cigarette, you tasted some of the smoke. You will now taste more. Like your first cup of coffee, it might taste strange. But within a week, you will begin to love the taste! As discussed before, it is an acquired taste.

If you are smoking a menthol cigarette, you will notice a “cool” sensation in your mouth.

Now, blow out the smoke. Once again, pucker your lips slightly, and exhale until all of the smoke has been blown out of your mouth. You will notice that the smoke does not look as elegant as the smoke your friends exhale. That is because they have been inhaling, which gives the exhaled smoke a different consistency. Remember, even if you are, for right now, the clumsiest smoker in the world, you are already sexier than ninety percent of the non-smokers! And you will get even better.

Repeat this process a few times. As the ash gets longer on your cigarette, you will want to hold the cigarette above the ashtray and gently tap.

You are now ready for your first inhale. If you want to wait and smoke a few more cigarettes without inhaling, please feel free to do so. Begin at a pace that is comfortable for you.

To inhale, repeat the process above: Gently draw some of the smoke into your mouth, as if drinking from a straw. This time, take only a small amount of smoke.

Now, open your mouth slightly, and slowly breathe in through your mouth. As you do, you will inhale a mixture of smoke and air. Hold your breath for less than a second, and then exhale as before.

As your body gets used to the new pleasant sensations of smoking, you might have the urge to cough. This is natural, and you should not be alarmed. However, try to control your reflex to cough until you have exhaled all of the smoke. If you can do this, it will be

a little bit easier to start, because coughing with smoke still in your system usually leads to more coughing.

Don’t worry, the cough reflex lasts only for your first few cigarettes.

Note: One correspondent advised me to mention that the smoker should exhale some, through the nose, before beginning the inhale. I examined my own smoking procedure, and while I do not always do this, it is important to note that the lungs must not be full when beginning the inhale. I generally achieve this state by exhaling about half the air in my lungs prior to puffing the smoke into my mouth. I will update this page later. For the time being however, I did want to add a note on this subject, as this page seems to be receiving a large number of hits.

You might feel a little light-headed now. This is because the nicotine is already entering your system. If you start to feel dizzy, sit down and wait a while before smoking again.

If you want, you may repeat this process a few more times. I would recommend, however, that you not inhale more than three or four times from your first cigarette. And don’t try to smoke more than two or three cigarettes your first day.

When you feel like you are finished, you can put out your cigarette. Simply crush the burning end down into a clean ashtray. This is another area that might take practice. Don’t worry if the cigarette keeps burning in the ashtray.

However, as a smoker, you should be concerned with fire safety. NEVER empty an ashtray into a waste-paper basket, even if it looks like the cigarette is out! Use an old coffee can or other metal container to empty ashtrays. Or, soak the used cigarettes thoroughly in water before disposal.

Congratulations, you have smoked your first cigarette!

How to Start Smoking: Lesson 4

Smoking: Day 2

By The Visiting Professor

I’d like to thank Professor Humo for allowing me to continue where he left off at the end of Lesson 3. As it is with him, my top priority will be to ensure that you can experience the true pleasure of smoking — and reach your full, sexy potential through smoking — as easily and comfortably as possible.

Now, let’s take a look back at yesterday, when you took your first inhale.

You had the urge to cough and most likely did. And you got light-headed.

Don’t worry. This is natural. A key point to remember is that you’ve aleady finished the toughest lesson of this start-smoking course. Each lesson from this point on should get easier and easier. You’ve gone through your “initiation” and you are a smoker now and 100 times sexier than before! Congratulations.

But you’ve got two main things to work on:

  • You need to train your lungs to accept the smoke and build up to taking deeper,

    sexier drags.

  • You must gradually build your tolerance to nicotine so you can smoke without

    getting dizzy.

That’s what we’ll do in this and the next several lessons. It may be hard to believe, but training your lungs will be the easiest to accomplish.

Today, on your second day of smoking, you should aim to smoke two cigarettes — one in the morning and one in the afternoon. For extra credit you could push yourself to smoke a third, but you should wait at least two hours after smoking one of the other two before doing so.

    The Morning Cigarette

Light up and take a couple of puffs into your mouth before proceeding as you did on the first day you inhaled. Now, do just as you did yesterday: Take a small puff, part your lips slightly and breathe in. Hold for a second and breathe out. You should find a mirror to see how sexy you look.

If you again have the urge to cough, fight it. Try not to cough before you’ve finished exhaling. Keep in mind that by taking a few more drags, you will kill your urge to cough. So … just keep at it.

You should inhale two or three times with this cigarette. But probably no more.

Again, the light-headednes will return. If you don’t take too many drags, you should find this to be a managable sensation — perhaps even sexy and pleasant. If you don’t find the feeling of nicotine in your body to be pleasant now, you soon will.

Put out the cigarette and go on with your daily routine. Decide when you will smoke your next cigarette of the day so you can look forward to it.

The Evening Cigarette

By now you probably are excited at the prospect of smoking again — twice in one day. Even if some of the initial side-effects are a tad unpleasant, you should focus on how sexy you are becoming by training your body with each puff you inhale. Take note of how each inhale is becoming slightly easier than the last. Perhaps with this cigarette — and certainly by sometime on the third day — you will perceive the nicotine as feeling more and more pleasant.

With this cigarette, aim to take three to four inhales. If you’ve continued to have the urge to cough, these drags should pretty much finish off that reflex.

As before, take some puffs into your mouth before you begin this, your first real inhalation exercise.

The first inhale should be much the same as the previous ones. Small puff, with a quick in-and-out inhale.

The second puff should be slightly longer, providing you with more smoke to pull in. Hold the smoke in your lungs for a full two seconds and breathe out.

The third puff should be pretty good sized. Fill your mouth with smoke and breathe it in deeply. Hold it in for about three seconds before exhaling.

If you choose to take a fourth drag, make it a small one.

Again, you will feel the sensation of nicotine. This time it should be more pleasant than before. But, after taking your first really deep inhale, you probably will recognize the need to build your tolerance to nicotine. We’ll tackle that in Lesson 5.

If you have a third cigarette, be sure to allow enough time to elapse between the last one so you don’t get too much nicotine.

Congratulations! You’ve completed Lesson 4 and are on your way to truly experiencing what smoking is all about. You soon will be turning guys’ heads and smoking so expertly that you can “come out” in front of your friends without fumbling and feeling like a rookie.

And above all, you will be joining a sisterhood of the most sexy women on the planet.

Smoking: Day 3

Important!

How to Start Smoking: Lesson 5

DrHumo and I both believe it’s OK to read ahead in the lessons, and to take as much time as you need before advancing to the next lesson.

But … you shouldn’t skip lessons, especially at this stage.

In order to ensure that your smoking experience begins as comfortably and enjoyably as possible, and to help you reach your full, sexy potential, we strongly recommend that you complete Lessons 1 through 4 before proceeding to this and subsequent lessons.

***

Welcome to your next lesson, in which you’ll discover the complete experience of smoking. By now you should have inhaled several times on a cigarette as you increasingly controlled any urge to cough and became more accustomed to the sensation of nicotine.

Today we will move on to what you you really wanted when you decided to embark on the start-smoking course: By evening, you will be able to sit down and smoke a cigarette, inhaling from the first puff to the last.

Today you should aim to smoke four cigarettes as your lungs get fully accustomed to accepting smoke and you increase your tolerance of nicotine. We also will have you try smoking in lieu of a snack. Many women find that smoking is a tremendous help when it comes to weight-control because cigarettes provide a no-calorie alternative to snacking and reduce your appetite as well!

Again today, you should wait at least a couple of hours after a cigarette before smoking another one.

Morning Cigarette

Get a fairly early start, choosing a time in the early to mid-morning. As you did previously, light the cigarette and inhale a small puff, holding it for only a second or so, and then breathe out.

This time, though, it’s not an “experiment.” You should try to inhale again and again, but taking in only a small amount of smoke with each puff. Wait about a minute between puffs. Evaluate how you feel after each time you inhale. If you begin to feel too light- headed, just put out the cigarette.

Smokers typically inhale about 10 times each on regular-sized cigarettes, and about 12 times for the more feminine 100s. You should try to inhale about six small puffs on this, your first cigarette of the day. If you can’t make it that far, don’t worry! Take it at your own pace and enjoy the experience.

Lunchtime Cigarette
Before eating lunch, if possible, find time for your second cigarette of the day. With this

cigarette you should aim to inhale six to eight times.

You will notice that by now you are having little difficulty resisting the urge to cough. And, the nicotine sensation is changing. Instead of being an almost overpowering feeling, it is becoming a more pleasant, almost tingling, sensation. This is the sensation you will look forward to feeling again.

Be sure to evaluate how you’re feeling after each small puff, and put it out when you feel you’ve reached your limit or you’ve inhaled eight times.

Now it’s time for lunch. Are you as hungry as you were earlier?

Afternoon Cigarette
Pick a moment at mid-afternoon, perhaps about that time you may normally be tempted

to go for a snack.

As you feel the nicotine rush through your body, think about how alluring you’re becoming. With each inhale you take, you *are* getting sexier — gaining the power to turn a lot of guys’ heads. You will be noticed more often! If you have a mirror, take a look at yourself again. What you’ll see is something many men find highly attractive.

With this cigarette, aim to inhale a full 10 times. If you don’t make it, no problem. You’ll have another chance this evening.

By the way, do you still feel like getting that snack? See … it works!

Evening Cigarette

This time you should press yourself a little. Go for the full 10 to 12 puffs. Increase the amount of smoke you take in on some of the puffs. Again focus on the pleasure of the nicotine sensation and how men will soon find you even more attractive.

If you can’t make it to the end of the cigarette, go ahead and put it out. Don’t ever smoke to the point that you make yourself feel bad. As I noted in Lesson 4, raising your tolerance to nicotine is more difficult than simply getting accustomed to inhaling smoke. You’ll have more opportunities to smoke entire cigarettes in Lesson 6.

Congratulations! You’ve smoked one or two complete cigarette from beginning to end — or gotten pretty close — today! You are beginning to finally understand the experience of smoking, something that millions of women already know and use to their advantage everyday!

Smoking: Day 4

Important!

How to Start Smoking: Lesson 6

DrHumo and I both believe it’s OK to read ahead in the lessons, and to take as much time as you need before advancing to the next lesson.

But … you shouldn’t skip lessons, especially at this stage.

In order to ensure that your smoking experience begins as comfortably and enjoyably as possible, and to help you reach your full, sexy potential, we strongly recommend that you complete Lessons 1 through 5 before proceeding to this and subsequent lessons.

***

In our last lesson you finally achieved what might have seemed out of reach just a few days ago: You lit up a cigarette and actually smoked it, inhaling each puff all the way to the end. But now you realize that by following along with the lessons, it’s really not that hard. You can start smoking … all by yourself!

The good news is that it’s going to get even easier from now on!

But before you’ll be ready to go out and smoke in front of your friends — or make an impression on the guys — you’ll need more practice. That’s what you’ll be doing today.

In the coming lessons, you’ll work on such things as how to use “innocent” but seductive moves while smoking to gain men’s attention, and you’ll go out into a public place and fit in annonymously as a smoker.

But before we get to those finer points, you must put in a couple of days practicing what you’ve learned so far. The goal is to make smoking more a natural part of *who* you are, so you won’t look awkward or get overfilled with nicotine when you’re eventually smoking in front of people you know — or want to know.

So today, you should aim to smoke five to six cigarettes following pretty much the same schedule as in Lesson 5: mid-morning, noon, mid-afternoon and early evening.

To that I’d suggest adding two more smoking opportunities: early morning and late evening. As before, be sure to allow a suitable amount of time — at least an hour or two — to elapse between cigarettes.

Early-Morning Cigarette

Today you should try to smoke as soon as possible after rising. If you’re a coffee drinker, you may well find that cigarettes and coffee complement each other well taste-wise, and you may soon be looking forward to that smoke with your morning java. If you don’t drink

coffee, a cigarette is still a great way to start the day — waking you up, and getting you alert and ready for your morning activities.

If you didn’t complete smoking an entire cigarette in Lesson 5, try again with the early- morning cigarette. If the feeling of nicotine still hasn’t changed to pleasant, don’t worry. It will. Probably today.

As you smoke your other cigarettes at mid-morning, lunch, mid-afternoon and early evening, you should work to take slightly larger and deeper inhales. This will continue to help build your tolerance of nicotine and ultimate enjoyment.

Late Evening Cigarette

As the sensation of nicotine becomes more pleasant, you still may notice that the feeling becomes a little “stale” a few hours after smoking. This feeling will dissipate over time. But … the best way to brighten yourself back up is with another cigarette! One shortly before bedtime will help you relax. Try it! I’m fairly certain you’ll agree.

A look inside your pack now will reveal that the 20 cigarettes you bought the other day are more than half gone! So, it may be time to begin thinking about buying your next pack. You may be comfortable with the brand you bought previously, but you may want to think about switching up to a full-flavor brand. Salem regulars or 100s, Benson & Hedges 100s, Marlboro Reds or 100s and Virginia Slims regulars are but a few examples.

Since you’ve been working to build your enjoyment of nicotine, you might want to take this step as part of your training. Many of your friends probably smoke full-flavor cigarettes, and it will be a lot easier to borrow one from time to time if you are used to that strength. Also, even though ultra lights are an OK strength to begin your smoking experience, you’ll want to show that you really have started — and aren’t just pretending. A full-flavor cigarette makes that statement and is viewed by a lot of guys as more sexy.

Congratulations! You’ve taken another important step toward becoming a real smoker by repeatedly smoking cigarettes throughout the day. If you feel like celebrating, go ahead! Light up another! You deserve it!

Continued Training

The complete Start Smoking lesson plan at DrHumo’s ultimately calls for a set of more than 20 lessons that not only will allow you to easily start smoking but also to use cigarettes as an alluring fashion accessory and to get those double-takes from guys that find it attractive. (There are a lot of us!)

With the completion of this lesson, however, we have posted up the essentials of how to go about actually starting and the initial training and conditioning.

From D.R. Humo: I’m sure I join all of the students in thanking the Visiting Professor for these important lessons. And now that you’ve completed the first six lessons, you have mastered the mechanics of smoking. By doing so, you have become a sexier woman!

But as with many of the better things in life, there’s much more to enjoy than the mere mechanics: In order to be extraordinarily alluring, a woman must smoke with style.

And that’s where the next lessons come in. Beginning with Lesson 7 (also courtesy of the Visiting Professor), you will begin to master the Elements of Style. You are on your way to becoming a truly glamorous woman!

All of us at the World of Smoking Glamour endeavour to provide a loving, supportive environment in which a woman can blossom in her decision to become a smoker. As always, if you have any questions or comments, we welcome them.

How to Start Smoking: Lesson 7 Elements of Style

By The Visiting Professor

Important!

DrHumo and I both believe it’s OK to read ahead in the lessons, and to take as much time as you need before advancing to the next lesson.

But … you shouldn’t skip lessons.

In order to ensure that your smoking experience begins as comfortably and enjoyably as possible, and to help you reach your full, sexy potential, we strongly recommend that you complete Lessons 1 through 6 — and condition yourself by smoking six to 10 cigarettes a day for at least four days before proceeding to this and subsequent lessons.

***

By starting to smoke, you have tapped into a secret weapon for getting noticed by a LOT of men. Now it’s time to learn how to use smoking to maximize those opportunities.

In our earlier lessons, you learned the basics of smoking — how to inhale and gradually build your tolerance to nicotine by working up to smoking several cigarettes every day. By now, you’re finding nicotine to be a pleasant, comforting sensation that you look forward to as a little reward for a completed task or as an alternative to snacks.

If you’ve smoked in public, you’ve probably already noticed that you’re getting a few more glances. So let’s get down the the “style” points that will really start turning heads!

Exactly what makes a woman smoker sexy varies from man to man. There are different techniques — from the way a woman holds the cigarette in her hand to her posture and makeup. But Internet surveys on the subject have shown that most men agree they are intrigued by the way a woman inhales the smoke and the length of time before she exhales.

So, we’ll start there — and cover other aspects in subsequent lessons.

For this exercise, you should find a mirror and a clock or watch with a second hand. Light a cigarette.

Take a typical draw on the cigarette and time it to see how long you pull smoke through cigarette and how long between the inhale and exhale. For many new smokers especially, it’s only a couple of seconds each. Although that may be attractive to men, it’s not stunning!

Now, take a draw on the cigarette again. Try to increase the amount of time you hold the smoke in to four or five seconds. Pay close attention to the amount of smoke you exhale. You need to get enough smoke to ensure a nice creamy exhale despite holding it longer in your lungs.

Next, put a little body language into it.

At the moment you inhale, make sure your bust line heaves slightly outward. Hold the smoke for five seconds or so and exhale, pursing your lips slightly and checking to make sure an ample stream comes out.

You can add variations such as changing your posture slightly as you hold the smoke — shifting once after the inhale and once just before the exhale, for example. You can gaze into the distance, look down at a book, glance at the man who’s watching, etc., before shifting again to exhale. Look nonchalant. Look comfortable and natural. Try tilting your head upward for the exhale, or to the side, etc. Practice these moves. They are your ammunition. They work.

For the sake of conditioning, work up to holding the smoke for seven to 10 seconds. If you have a man’s attention, you may want to throw in a couple of these extra-long inhales.

But get well-practiced at the four to five-second inhales with your slight bust-line heaves and repertoire of body language moves. Practice them as you smoke your other cigarettes for the next several days, until they become second-nature and a part of your smoking style.

If you have *questions* please feel free to e-mail DrHumo. He or I will get back to you as soon as possible.

AusNick Adds… For whatever reason, the series wasn’t updated past this lesson, so it ends here, which is a pity because it would have been interesting to see the series of 20 or more lessons in it’s entirety.

Addendum

The information on this page is intended for an adult audience. There are health risks associated with smoking, although D.R. Humo believes that an adult woman should be able to balance those risks with the benefits of smoking.

But D.R. Humo does not advocate underaged smoking. Please consider the following:

Most of the health risks associated with smoking are dependent upon the number of years smoked. In other words, the most significant smoking-related health problems do not manifest themselves until after decades of smoking. The younger one starts smoking, the more potential hazards. Thus, the lifetime hazards of smoking are much higher for those who start smoking at a young age.

It’s probably an urban legend to state that “smoking stunts your growth.” There is, however, some truth in this statement: Smoking probably has more potential for harm in developing lungs and hearts. These inherent hazards are less significant for persons who start smoking as adults.

Finally, nicotine definitely has addictive qualities. Never having been addicted to anything else, D.R. Humo is unable to compare the addictive qualities of cigarettes to those of other substances. Smoking gives pleasure, but the inability to smoke causes equal or greater displeasure. If you are under eighteen years of age, please consider the fact that smoking is illegal, and given the current political climate, it will probably become more and more difficult to obtain cigarettes. Possible periods of cigarette unavailability would detract considerably from the pleasure of smoking. For example, if D.R. Humo were allowed to smoke only on odd-numbered days, he would probably just quit altogether.

D.R. Humo is not a health nazi: He enjoys smoking himself, and he wishes that more adult women smoked. But if you are underaged, he hopes you follow his example: Decide whether to start smoking after you are old enough to do so legally. Smoking will be infinitely more enjoyable, and you will have reduced many of the health risks.
